For the first time in the festival’s history, Malaysia will present a national music showcase at South by Southwest (SXSW), introducing international audiences to a new wave of artists redefining the country’s contemporary sound.
Curated and headlined by Malaysian rapper, singer-songwriter, and producer Zamaera, the Made in Malaysia stage will take place March 15 at Las Perlas, spotlighting five artists shaping the future of Malaysia’s independent music movement.
For decades, Malaysia’s music culture has been defined by its diversity. Home to Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous communities, the country’s cultural landscape has produced a generation of artists comfortable blending languages, sounds, and influences. The result is a creative scene where hip-hop, indie, R&B, electronic music, and experimental pop coexist freely.

Alongside Zamaera, the lineup features R&B vocalist Murty, whose smooth sound reflects the pulse of Malaysia’s urban music scene, and New York–based indie artist Zoe Tan, known for intimate songwriting and delicate melodies. Also performing is genre-blurring artist Lil Asian Thiccie, whose work jumps between hyperpop, techno, and hip-hop with playful unpredictability, and electronic producer I-SKY, whose immersive DJ sets fuse techno, EDM, and alternative sounds.
Opening the evening is Texas-based DJ VÖ.A_2000, bringing global club energy to the stage.
For Zamaera, the showcase represents a turning point for Malaysian artists seeking a global audience. “Our music reflects the mix of cultures that make Malaysia unique,” she says. “With this stage, we’re sharing that identity with the world.” Beyond her own music career, Zamaera has also been building infrastructure for the scene through Mean Malaya Entertainment, an independent label focused on creative freedom and artist development.
As global music discovery becomes increasingly borderless, the Made in Malaysia stage positions the country’s emerging artists within a broader international conversation.Full lineup below and visit here for more info.\
